Connecting People with Art that Inspires, Challenges, Enlightens and Educates
Tom Small, well known and respected Northwest Sculptor, has been selected by IMA to serve as the First IMA Sculpture Park Artist-in-Residence to complete an on-site Basalt Sculpture during the summer of 2011.
It is important to note that the stones were purchased, in part, through the efforts of Nikki LeBaron, a senior at Friday Harbor High School, who applied for a Gates Foundation Grant to complete a Community Project at the Park to meet a graduation requirement. The IMA Museum of Art and Sculpture Park Board of Directors are grateful for Nikki's efforts on behalf of IMA.
I am constantly trying to do the best art I possibly can in pursuit of my vision, which once defined or stated shifts and becomes something else. Everything of natural or human origin influences me.
-Tom Small
Tom studied sculpture at the University of Washington where he explored bronze casting, welding and wood carving. His work is included in many private collections nationally and a few in Canada. He now lives on a little mountaintop in a big forest on San Juan Island where he creates sculptures for galleries, homes, and sculpture parks in the Pacific Northwest.
