Sculpture Park —  Artist in Residence 2011

Tom Small - 2011 Artist in Residence at the Sculpture ParkTom Small, well known and respected Northwest Sculptor, has been selected by IMA to serve as the First IMA Sculpture Park Artist-in-Residence to complete an on-site Basalt Sculpture during the summer of 2011.

It is important to note that the stones were purchased, in part, through the efforts of Nikki LeBaron, a senior at Friday Harbor High School, who applied for a Gates Foundation Grant to complete a Community Project at the Park to meet a graduation requirement. The IMA Museum of Art and Sculpture Park Board of Directors are grateful for Nikki's efforts on behalf of IMA.

Artist Statement:

left quoteI am constantly trying to do the best art I possibly can in pursuit of my vision, which once defined or stated shifts and becomes something else. Everything of natural or human origin influences me.right quote

-Tom Small

Tom studied sculpture at the University of Washington where he explored bronze casting, welding and wood carving. His work is included in many private collections nationally and a few in Canada. He now lives on a little mountaintop in a big forest on San Juan Island where he creates sculptures for galleries, homes, and sculpture parks in the Pacific Northwest.
