Family Art Days

Family Art Days is a summer series tradition of free for kids drop-in workshops held every Saturday in July and August, 11:00am to 4:00pm. These great workshops are given by well known local artists at the beautiful IMA Sculpture Park at Westcott Bay, near Roche Harbor. A fun afternoon where children and their families can create a work of art to take home with them.

Summer 2011 Schedule:

July 2
Wynn Barnard
Recycled Bottle Creatures

What do you see in a bottle? A rocket ship? A dragon? A monster? A castle? Maybe a mobile or a musical instrument? Look at the recycling bin a little differently and get creative! Using all recycled materials. Supplies provided, but feel free to bring your own!

July 9
Sherry Bell
Printmaking without a Press

Be inspired by the natural beauty of the Sculpture Park. Create one of a kind hand drawn monotypes using water based materials!

July 16
Claire Siegel
Paper Power!

Get your wind power on! Come design, construct and decorate your own paper pinwheel made from old paper grocery bags. Perfect for decorating your summer garden, playing with at the beach or just enjoying a breezy summer day! Supplies provided, but we'll happily take paper bags that you're trying to recycle!

July 23
Chinmayo

August 6
Caitlin McCauley, Shanti Neff-Baro & Val Curtis
Become a Bird Brain!

Come make a mask! Using feathers, leaves and other materials in the park we make masks resembling our favorite local birds. Then, we will go on bird safaris with middle school science teacher, Val Curtis, to see how many bird species we can identify around the Sculpture Park!

August 13
Alice Hibberd
Wild Habitat Mandala

Choose a local wild mammal as the soul of a mandala design. Use "repli-track" stamps made from real animal tracks to create circular patterns. Crush grasses, leaves and flowers into "natural paints", adding colors to reflect the animal's habitat. Add plant rubbings and figure drawing patterns to add your animal's food, home and predatory relations. Animal artifacts and books will spark your creativity.

August 27
Rebecca Barnard
Let's PAINT!

Learn how to make any color in the rainbow -- and any color in the Sculpture Park! Using paint, natural materials, the recycling bin and our imaginations, we will make painted creations to take home.
