INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES 2011-2012
The San Juan Islands Museum of Art & Sculpture Park (IMA) on San Juan Island seeks highly motivated and qualified individuals interested in internships for students (Winter, Spring or Summer 2011-12, 2012-13). Students interested in pursuing careers in public art, arts administration, development for non-profit arts organizations, and/or marketing and media relation promotions should apply. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a professional arts, cultural, & educational organization that drew more than 45,000 people to the museum & sculpture park last year.
Administrative Assistant
Applicants should be proficient in Word, Excel, and database programs and ideally familiar with MAC. Applicant should be organized, efficient, and capable of managing multiple assignments, have strong communication skills, and experience working with the public. The student will assist in development of our membership program, manage educational program registrations, assist with museum exhibition installations, and other administrative duties. The ideal candidate would be a student that has experience or interest in the arts, and is pursuing a career in Administration with non-profit organizations or museums. (In addition, high school juniors or seniors working on their senior projects or community projects may apply.)
Grants/Funds Development Assistant
Applicants should be proficient in Word, Excel, and database programs and ideally familiar with MAC. Some experience in graphic design is desirable. Applicant should be organized, efficient, and capable of managing multiple assignments, have strong communication and writing skills, and experience working with the public. Intern will assist in development of a business donor program and seeking grants from foundations. Applicants are requested to include two writing samples. Facilities Coordinator
Intern will be assisting/coordinating the installation of our 2011 exhibition of sculptures throughout the 19-acre park. Interns will work directly with sculpture artists from around the region, assisting with installations, which may include heavy lifting, mixing concrete and building concrete footings. Interns should have some basic tool experience and have an interest in landscape maintenance and gardening. Interns should be flexible, organized, comfortable in dealing with the public and capable of juggling multiple assignments. The ideal candidate would be a student that is pursuing a career in sculpture including public art projects. Marketing Coordinator
Applicants should be proficient in Word, Excel, and database programs and ideally familiar with MAC. Some experience in graphic design is desirable. Applicant should be organized, efficient, and capable of managing multiple assignments, have strong communication and writing skills, and experience working with the public. Intern will be working on membership development, advertising campaigns, and sending out regular press releases. The ideal candidate would be a student that has experience or interest in the arts, and is pursuing a career in marketing with non-profit arts organizations or museums. Hours:
IMA requires a minimum commitment of 15-35 hours per week. Internships are unpaid positions and students must be willing to live on San Juan Island for the duration of the Internship. Students should inquire a.s.a.p. as we have a limited number of positions available. The Museum will provide housing for students and/or assist students with finding their own housing. Each intern is assigned a certified University Professor as a mentor in: Painting, Sculpture, Educational Administration, Park Management, Marketing, or Business Management.
