A close-up photograph of a large enamel/steel "painting" by Pagen. The piece explores the tension between two and three-dimensional perception by manipulating complex materials. The lower half of the painting is primarily white, with red, stick-like lines extending upwards. The upper half of the painting is dominated by black, blue, and gray tones. The abstract composition is non-representational, with no discernible objects or forms. The texture of the painting is varied, with areas of smooth enamel and rough, almost metallic steel. Overall, the piece is a striking exploration of color, texture, and perception.
