ARTIST STATEMENT
April Randall is an artist and sailor living aboard a sailboat with her boyfriend and dog. She double majored in Art and Biology, and after over 20 years of working in animal medicine in Chicago, she decided to pursue a more simplified life focused on her art. In Chicago, she was active in the arts scene, even founding and leading a non-profit organization called the Chicago Arts Syndicate Trust, which she still presides over as president.
In 2014, April moved to Washington to embrace a cruising lifestyle on her boat, allowing her to concentrate on her art amidst stunning natural surroundings. Her 37-foot sailboat also serves as her mobile studio, providing her with access to breathtaking views that inspire her plein air paintings of the San Juan Islands. Though she has since opened a studio and gallery space within Friday Harbor to accommodate larger paintings.
April’s artistic portfolio is diverse and dynamic, ranging from landscapes and portraits to animal studies and figure drawings. She excels in watercolor, illustration, animation, and graphic design, constantly evolving her style and embracing creative whims that often lead to substantial projects, expanding her skills and knowledge along the way.
