June Sekiguchi
The Pulse of Water – June Sekiguchi’s large scale, immersive installation personifies the river as the circulatory system of the human body. The Pulse of Water takes inspiration from the Mekong River running through Luang Prabang, Laos where Sekiguchi has frequently traveled. Floating down the Mekong in a meditative journey, Sekiguchi saw the swirls and whirlpools on the sienna colored surface caused by hidden objects underneath as a metaphor for our stories and history that makes us the individuals we are, but not seen.
A bamboo footbridge spanning a tributary to the Mekong washes away with each monsoon rain. The cyclical action of rebuilding the bridge is a symbol of impermanence, the preeminent concept of Buddhism.
