About the Event
Join us in SJIMA's Sterner Atrium Gallery for an evening with sculptor Dan Brown, whose exhibition Iron and Wood: Sculptures of the Northwest has filled the gallery's soaring glass atrium with wildlife in motion — captured in steel, rebar, and reclaimed wood.
Dan will speak about his creative process and his lifelong habit of finding art in everything — from salvaged wagon rims to woodshop scraps to the piles of found metal and timber that accumulate in his studio. He'll walk visitors through how a sculpture takes shape, from the initial sketches and reference photos he uses to study an animal's movement, to bending rebar into form, to the final touches that give each piece its sense of life and animation.
Expect an honest, wide-ranging conversation — Dan is a natural storyteller with deep roots in science, education, and the outdoors, and his approach to artmaking is as practical and resourceful…
