CONVERSATIONS WITH GEE'S BEND

May 24 – Sept. 3, 2018

NICHOLS GALLERY, NORTH GALLERY & ATRIUM

Multiple artists

Gee’s Bend, Alabama is home to one of the most important African American quilt-making traditions in the United States. Their works, which have been shown widely in museums over the past two decades, are celebrated for their soft geometries, bold juxtapositions of color, and inventive use of materials.

Curator Annie Howell-Adams invited artists, whose work resonates with the bold colors, improvisational designs and narratives of the Gee’s Bend quilts, to exhibit at SJIMA for “Conversations with Gee’s Bend.”
