Observe the Installation: Alison Stigora's Constellation

From September 25–28, visitors are invited behind the scenes as Alison Stigora brings Constellation to life in SJIMA's Sterner Atrium Gallery.

Commissioned specifically for SJIMA’s soaring glass atrium, Constellation is a monumental, site-specific installation inspired by the landscape, light, and maritime environment of the San Juan Islands. More than one hundred suspended sculptures transform weathered driftwood and reclaimed shattered glass into a shimmering constellation overhead, while a composed soundscape incorporating field recordings made on San Juan Island—ferries, wind, waves, and other sounds of the surrounding environment—deepens the sense of place. Through light, sound, and reclaimed materials, Stigora invites us to find beauty and possibility in the unexpected.

The museum invites visitors to observe the installation process September 25–28, offering a behind-the-scenes view as the work takes shape in SJIMA’s atrium.

Available during regular museum hours.
