About the Event
Join us for an unforgettable evening of art and conversation at the SJIMA members-only opening reception for the Archipelago: Contemporary Art of the Salish Sea exhibition. As part of this special event, SJIMA members will have the opportunity to enjoy an early preview of the exhibit, which will be open to the public from September 22 to December 4, 2023. The reception will take place on September 21, 2023, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the San Juan Islands Museum of Art (SJIMA).
This highly anticipated second installment of the Archipelago exhibition celebrates the artistic talent spanning borders and the Salish Sea and features six of the finest visual artists working in the Southern Gulf Islands. For the first time, these artists' works will be showcased in Friday Harbor and displayed across all three galleries at SJIMA. The featured artists are Anna Gustafson, Joanna Rogers, Jane Kidd, Temoseng Chazz Elliott, John Macdonald, and Sam Montalbetti.
At the reception, SJIMA members will have the opportunity to mingle with fellow art enthusiasts, explore the exhibition, and meet some of the exhibiting artists. As Howard Jang noted, "This exhibition serves as an opportunity for artists, as well as art centers, to engage in meaningful cultural exchange, foster relationships, introduce our communities to world-class artistic excellence, and form a bit of pride that for such a small specific region, we can celebrate something unique on the global stage."
Don't miss this exclusive opportunity to immerse yourself in art inspired by the beauty and vitality of the Salish Sea, and to support the artistic endeavors of both the Southern Gulf Islands and San Juan Islands communities.
