The Art of the Line: An Etching Talk with Meg Partridge & Howie Rosenfeld

Etching is one of the oldest print processes in Western art — and one of the least understood by the average gallery visitor. Join us for a conversation exploring the craft behind the work on view in Convergence & Divergence: The Family Aesthetic.

Meg Partridge, granddaughter of etcher Roi Partridge and curator of the current Nichols Gallery exhibition, will open with a brief look at her grandfather's history with the medium — a practice he pursued for seven decades, carrying copper plates and etching tools into the landscape to work en plein air. Local artist and printmaker Howie Rosenfeld will then walk the audience through the etching process itself, with tools and a small portable press on hand to show how a plate becomes a print.

This event is scheduled for 4 PM to accommodate inter-island ferry schedules, allowing visitors from neighboring islands to attend and still make it home…
