In Portrait of Imogen and Outta My Light: Photographer Rondal Partridge, filmmaker Meg Partridge brings an intimate perspective to the lives and work of her grandmother, Imogen Cunningham, and her father, Rondal Partridge. Meg grew up immersed in photography—spending time in her father's darkroom, assisting Cunningham as a teenager, and seeing firsthand how photographers live: their passions, their creative pursuits, and the merging of work and personal life.

These films bring voice, movement, and lived experience to the photographs in Convergence & Divergence: The Family Aesthetic. In Portrait of Imogen, archival recordings made by Rondal let Cunningham recount her life and work in her own voice, revealing her characteristic wit and candor. Outta My Light captures Rondal's humor, restless curiosity, and working method. Together, the films reveal dimensions of artistic life that still images alone cannot convey. Meg is part of this lineage of image-makers, using film to illuminate the artists who shaped her and the ways of seeing carried from one generation to the next.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Meg Partridge is an award-winning filmmaker and cinematographer based on Lopez Island, Washington. In 1980 she began archiving the work of her grandmother, Imogen Cunningham, and later that of her father, Rondal Partridge; she currently directs both the Imogen Cunningham Trust and the Rondal Partridge Archive.

Her documentary work centers on photographers she knew personally. Portrait of Imogen (1988) received an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary Short Subject and the Gold Plaque for Best Documentary at the Chicago International Film Festival. She later made the film Dorothea Lange: A Visual Life (1995), about her godmother, which screened in competition for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. Outta My Light (2002) is a portrait of her father. Meg Partridge is Guest Curator of SJIMA’s Convergence & Divergence: The Family Aesthetic.
