CHARRED TOTEMS
March 4 – May 15, 2017
NORTH GALLERY
Suze Woolf
Wildfire-fighters call these standing corpses “totems” carbonized, eaten away, yet each different. The fire physics and the tree’s biological structure create unique sculptures. Each ridge and fissure becomes a landscape unto itself. Char remains iridescent for up to a decade, reflecting local light and color. Woolf’s art work is primarily about nature, and she does much of it in the field.
YouTube video: Suze Woolf discusses her work in the 2015 exhibit "The Modified Landscape" at The Centennial Center Gallery in Kent, WA.
