Ms. Buck holds a Master’s degree in Museum Studies from Harvard University and an LL.M. in Art Law from LUISS School of Law in Rome, Italy. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from the American University of Paris. Her professional experience spans cultural institutions and the international art market, bringing together expertise in collections, exhibitions, and public programming. From art research and archival work at the Musée du Louvre and educational programming for the Seattle Art Fair to exhibition development at Amazon’s Seattle Spheres, her work has bridged public engagement and institutional practice. She has also assisted with the coordination and curation of major museum exhibitions across the United States and Europe, and has experience in gallery advisory, artist representation, and curatorial practice. This breadth informs her approach to museum leadership, connecting the stewardship of cultural heritage with direct support for artists, meaningful public engagement, and ethical institutional development.

Deep roots in the San Juan Islands brought Ms. Buck back to Friday Harbor. “I am delighted to begin this next chapter with an organization that means so much to me and to this community,” she shared.

“The Islands have a remarkable creative spirit, shaped by the people who live here, the landscape that surrounds us, and the community we share. I’m honored to join SJIMA, and look forward to working alongside the Board, local artists, and the wider community to steward the Museum’s future with thoughtfulness and care, and to help continue to build an institution that is sustainable, accessible, and reflective of the Islands themselves.” - Fiona Buck

Kim Miller, President of the San Juan Islands Museum of Art stated, “We are very fortunate to have someone as talented and dedicated as Fiona Buck as our Executive Director as we take the museum into the next phase.”

Please visit the San Juan Islands Museum of Art Friday through Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to welcome Fiona Buck home.
