About the Event
First Glimpse: An Evening with Artists Kurt Solmssen, Kalina Winska & Zev RobinsonÂ
June 7th, 6-7 PM
Art lovers, come be a part of an unforgettable evening as we open the doors to three captivating exhibitions. Each artistic collection unravels a unique perspective, each brushstroke and installation inviting you to look closer, think deeper, and connect with the artists' narratives.
Luminous Coast: Kurt Solmssen’s Painterly Vision
Kurt Solmssen's work immerses you in the tranquil beauty of his Pacific Northwest home. His love for the region’s natural light and shadows are skillfully communicated through his plein-air paintings, beautifully rendering a world familiar yet intriguing. Moving from light-filled spaces to shadowy corners, from beached rowboats to towering evergreens, his canvases gracefully capture the sublime mood of his living landscape.
Unusual Phenomena: Kalina Winska’s Imaginary Climatescapes
Kalina Winska's art embodies the intersection of climate change and artistic interpretation. Through her experiential installation, you're invited to explore weather's impact on our environment. Winska's large-scale work offers a disorienting yet enlightening exercise in understanding chaotic climatic occurrences, while her colorful 2D pieces suggest atmospheric topography and climate modeling with their expressive forms and symbolic patterning.
The Art and Politics of Eating: A Community Collaboratory with Zev Robinson
Enter a thought-provoking exploration of the complex relationships between food, environment, and community with Zev Robinson. As an artist and filmmaker, Robinson presents a multisensory experience with film screenings, dinners, and art that engages the community around critical food issues. During his residency, he will create a film on the islands' history and food systems. His vibrant kitchen and food-themed paintings beautifully complement the on-going events.
Join us for this engaging hour-long reception. This is your chance to meet the artists and preview their exhibitions before they officially open on June 8.
No tickets or RSVP's are required.
