When he is not painting, he spends time with his wife and two children, writes poetry, and works as a graphic designer, editor, and associate director of marketing.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I take pride in engaging in a range of subjects, styles, and genres in my work. It’s a way to rotate crops. What these pieces have in common though is that they all began with a process of close observation and admiration before they turned inward and became expressive. Once I’ve laid in enough of a technical foundation, the rest is dancing.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

As the only hearing member of a deaf family, Gallimore’s first language is American Sign Language and English his second. He holds an MFA in creative writing from Johns Hopkins University and has studied drawing at the Watts Atelier of the Arts in Encinitas, CA under Jeffrey Watts, Erik and Meadow Gist, and Stan Prokopenko. When he is not painting, he spends time with his wife and two children, writes poetry, and works as a graphic designer, editor, and associate director of marketing. A sampling of his work can be found at frankgallimore.com or, for more recent works in progress, at his Instagram feed @frank_gallimore.

Go Figure! is on view now through December 6 in the Nichols Gallery. This striking exhibition will expand your definition of figurative art.

I especially appreciate how you balance personal reflection with a clear sense of craft, because that’s what helps audiences connect beyond the surface. This is also the kind of page that deserves to be discovered more widely online. With SEO, artist statements can rank for themes, mediums, exhibitions, and even local searches, bringing new viewers into your world organically. I’m glad SJIMA shares these voices with depth and care.
