IN DIFFICULT TIMES Art museums are a place of peace and healing.

Art can help present issues in ways that words cannot.

As SJIMA works toward being recognized as a prominent Pacific Northwest arts organization, embracing diversity and cultural awareness, our exhibitions and the artists emphasize our shared humanity, values, love of our special place and address social issues of our time.

Excerpt from Studio Daily of Longley interview regarding his feature documentary film, ANGELS ARE MADE OF LIGHT:

"I didn’t want to make a film which would be an outsider’s perspective on Afghanistan, objectifying it in some way. I wanted to have a film which felt like it was made from an Afghan point of view, expressing something real about how Afghans see the world. ..it’s an opportunity for a filmmaker to open it up for an audience. I’m always trying to find a way to give the audience something they don’t already have. I want Americans to be able to watch this film and get exactly what it looks like in daily life." - James Longley
