Nancy Spaulding
Title: Floating Moon From Sunset Bluff
Artist: Nancy Spaulding
Medium: Pastel
Latest Achievement:
My image, Evening Passage, was selected for the San Juan Islands’ specialty license plate, which supports nonprofits in San Juan County.
I spent my isolation year finishing a book, part memoir, and part natural history essays, Home In An Island Garden/ In Pursuit of an Artful Life to be available later this summer.
Biography:
Nancy has lived on San Juan Island since 1978 where she shares a studio with her husband Lewis, also an artist. She was a printmaker for over twenty years and has been working primarily in pastels for the last twenty.
Island: San Juan Island
Favorite Art Piece: This is difficult because I love so many genres of art - past and present. Sandro Botticelli’s Primavera comes to mind as an allegory of spring but for me a beautiful reminder of how humanity is an integral part of the natural world.
Favorite Quote: Edgar Degas. “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”
